I am not a source for advice, but your local nursery should be the best resource for plants that grow well and tips on how to make adjustments if the climate in Calgary is marginal for Daphne. A lovely plant.

Thanks, MuddyP. Good idea! I moved from Vancouver to Calgary recently and miss the marvellous scent of Daphne O.

Much more limiting environment there, shrubs like this will not be possible unless you greenhouse them.

Alpine gardeners in Calgary do grow small Daphne species successfully outdoors so it is possible with much forethought and selection of suitable species... but for the average gardener, a much more limiting environment indeed.

Not without a greenhouse for winter protection - it is only zone 8 hardy.

Not quite the same, but maybe try Daphne mezereum. I find it has a very nice and intense fragrance. Not evergreen.

Thanks, Eric, and everyone who passed very useful information on to me. I'll see what I can come up with and let you know how successful I am. Cheers

Yes, that should be hardy in Calgary.
