I am starting an indoor herb garden for the first time. It has always been a desire of mine and now I have an assignment for school that is allowing me to put the time and effort into this project.

My question is in regards to getting seeds. I want to make sure that the seeds that I buy are clean and organic. Can anyone suggest a website that I can use to purchase such seeds?

    Thank you.

    I would recommend Richters http://www.richters.com/.
I don't know what you mean by "organic", but they definitely do not sell genetically engineered seeds or plants.

You can probably go to any garden supply store in the Vancouver area and buy your seeds. I've never heard of genetically modified herbs or herb seeds, and a quick Web search only brings up some research in India for modifying herbs.

Alright, thank you! I just want to make sure they're isn't anything coating the seeds. I have read that some companies add chemicals to their seeds for different reasons. Ill check out the Vancouver location. Thank you. I love these threads.

I'd like to grow mint, lemongrass, and rosemary. Id like to see if I could also grow sage, chamomile and basil aswell. I live in white rock so I was going to start indoor then move outside.

The first three will be more challenging than the last ones. Mint spreads like crazy and is very invasive; lemongrass is a tropical that won't overwinter; and rosemary might not survive the coldest winters, especially when the plants are young.

What if I wanted to plant some borage? Would I be able to plant and keep edible flowers?

I don't know about lavender, but borage grows like a weed around here.

My concern is that you have very different moisture and temperature demanding plants. Rosemary can be grown outside no problem just make sure you buy cold hearty rosemary. Mine had a foot of snow on it last week.

At this time of year you probably can get a discount on herbs at an plant store in that they may look haggard but will perform as soon as they get some warmth and light.

Also whats the aspect of your place you are going to grow them ?

I'm in white rock so it's pretty unpredictable.
