    Hi,
    My Name Is Orchid.
I live In Zone 5a and am wondering if anyone can tell me: Can I place a Hoya Carnosa outside for the summer.
I have only had it about 1 year it has one flower spike but has not flowered. I am wondering if it is a good idea or not to put it outside.
    Looking Forward To Your Help
    Thank You In Advance
    Orchid

At this time of the year, if I were you I would put the Hoya outside under much light but not direct sun.

    So Sigtris,
In the Zone I am In here the Hoya would be okay outside as long as it is not in direct sun ?

    NEW QUESTION
Can Anyone Tell Me What A Brand New Bud Looks Like On The Hoya Carnosa ????
I Have Never Had It Bloom Before So I Want To Be Sure What They Look Like.
What I have Here Is A Burgundy Colored Bump Just Starting On The Wood Of The Plant ??

I am glad your Hoya is about to have flowers, you will find out its colour when the "Burundy colored Bump" opens and it shows you its flowers.
I have pink flowers and other plant with redish flowers.
You would love their waxy look.

I was given one that is at least thirty years old and it is just starting to flower in a couple spots. I am also excited to see what they look like!

    Hi prairiegreenthumb and Sigtris,
I have seen them and smelled them and always wanted one. My Step-grandmother had one and anytime we went near it when it flowered she would say don't touch it don't touch it. LOL So I am just trying to be patient about mine flowering. I do wish it would hurry up though. LOL

What about the pictures you posted? I do not see any flowers nor bottons.
I will go and see my plants to see if I can see a bud so you can compare it and I will post it here.
Fingers crossed so I can see a bud

Here's a few photos of mine just coming out. The last one is what the buds looked like before they started to bloom. Like i said this was just given to me not long ago but it is hanging in my kitchen along the ceiling with a fair amount of light and the buds were at the ends of these dead looking branches with no leaves. Some of the other ones are tucked in behind a leaf against the wall. I didn't even know they were there until i gave the plant a good inspection one day! Hope this helps.

    Great pictures¡
I am sure Orchid would be able to identify a bud in her plant.

I am in a subtropical clima and my Hoyas are about to finish blooming and I see you are in Canada and still have new buds coming out.

When I was around 15 yo I used to collect Dahlias (the mexican flower) and compite with my same age neighbour to see who got the largest flower.

I hope all of yours bloom in your wedding day (congratulations)

    Hi there you two.
In photo 1 an 2 these are the bumps I was talking about I have never seen them before on my Hoya. In Photo 3 and 4 these short stems I have never seen either nor are there others on the plant anywhere else.In photo 4 you can see the short one underneath the others growing against the leaf.
Thanks for your help. My large Hoya has NEVER bloomed. So it does not have any perduncles on it. So I am looking for let us say a VERY FIRST
description or photo of what a bud or the beginning of perduncle ought to look like.
I do have a piece from someone else that had bloomed several times and has 2 perduncles on it, that I have potted but it is in no way ready to bloom again of course.
    Hugs
    Orchid
