Here are two locations I discovered on a meetup group walk yesterday. Actually, the others were way ahead of me at this point. I veered off to see these three pruned 'Accolade' in the lane north of 8th west of Fraser. I guess the people here have a view without these trees in the way.

I want these quite nice large trees on 6th east of St George to be 'Jugatsu-zakura' ('Autumnalis', not 'Autumnalis Rosea'). They looked totally white (more white than in the photos), and some of the buds looked white, which was what I'd noticed on the only other confirmed 'Jugatsu-zakura', in Kerrisdale.

Here is one of the three 'Pandora' at the Mount Pleasant Community Centre, in bloom. There seems to be some major re-landscaping project under way - the whole field is dug up and surrounded by a fence.

    Re: Grandview-Woodland

Youngish, vigorous Somei-Yoshino in the yard of Mount Pleasant School, at southeast corner of E. 7 and Guelph, already at blossom-fall on April 3, 2012. Two other cherries nearby; unidentifiable, as trees only in bud.

'Yae-beni-shidare' at the corner of Yukon & West 11th, across from the City Hall Annex. I enjoyed viewing the heritage house through its branches. And it's also a very pretty curtain through which to look at other buildings, downtown Vancouver and the North Shore mountains.

As per Wendy's wish, post #51:
"I want these quite nice large trees on 6th east of St George to be 'Jugatsu-zakura' ('Autumnalis', not 'Autumnalis Rosea'). They looked totally white (more white than in the photos), and some of the buds looked white, which was what I'd noticed on the only other confirmed 'Jugatsu-zakura', in Kerrisdale."

Three Jugatsu-zakura trees flourishing in front yard of strata complex at 550 E. 6th Avenue (south side E. 6th, between St. George and Carolina). Tall for Autumnalis, with sparse white flowers and, more importantly, white buds on January 11, 2013. Resident mentioned the trees bloom in December, making these the cherries of the 11th lunar month in cooler Vancouver.

New Mount Pleasant Community Centre & Public Library

The new Mount Pleasant Community Centre & Public Library at 7th and Main St. is sort of a Kanzen corner with blossoms on display looking south down Main St., west on W7th and east 3 blocks to Prince Edward St. (not much looking north except the mountains :) where the elementary school interrupts E7th.

The three Jugatsu-zakura on the south side of E. 6th, between Carolina and St. George are in bloom—again, within the same year—at December 4, 2013.

From the abundance of the blossoms, it looks like they would have started to appear by the end of November, which would just squeeze them into the lunar calendar as the cherries of the tenth month.

No pretty pictures here. These 'Kanzan' are all finished blooming, but none of them are on the map, and they're all full blocks, or almost full blocks, mostly both sides of the street. Tony Puddicombe put me onto 11th around Fraser, said he biked through there last weekend. Somehow, I have to learn how to assign work to scouts instead of taking assignments from scouts. Well, their loss. Here goes.

I just decided to start a block east of Fraser, Prince Albert, and right out of the gate, here's a street of 'Kanzan' running from Broadway (9th) to 13th. With one new 'Shirofugen'. At least the 'Shirofugen' flowers still look good.
    20140502_PrinceAlbertBroadway_Kanzan_Cutler_P1050868.jpg 20140502_PrinceAlbertBroadway_Shirofugen_Cutler_P1050869.jpg 20140502_PrinceAlbertBroadway_Shirofugen_Cutler_P1050873.jpg

On 11th, the 'Kanzan' run from Prince Albert west to Prince Edward, five blocks, though they skip the block between Carolina and St. George. Though they skip the block east of Prince Albert, it looked like they pick up again east of St. Catherines. Here is looking east and west from Fraser. The first block west of Fraser is very lovely, nice houses that have been spiffed up. Here's a tree with 'Kanzan' growing off the trunk, but there are avium suckers from the ground and the tree is not in good shape.
    20140502_11thFraserE_Kanzan_Cutler_P1050883.jpg 20140502_11thFraserW_Kanzan_Cutler_P1050885.jpg 20140502_11thFraserW_Kanzan_Cutler_P1050893.jpg 20140502_11thFraserW_Kanzan_Cutler_P1050890.jpg 20140502_11thFraserW_Kanzan_Cutler_P1050892.jpg

All the cross-streets except Fraser have 'Kanzan' running from Broadway to Kingsway.
Here are Carolina, looking north and south,
    20140502_CarolinaN11th_Kanzan_Cutler_P1050903.jpg 20140502_CarolinaS11th_Kanzan_Cutler_P1050902.jpg 20140502_CarolinaS11th_Kanzan_Cutler_P1050904.jpg

St George (riderlude81 reported part of this street), Guelph,
    20140502_StGeorge111th-Broadway_Kanzan_Cutler_P1050911.jpg 20140502_Guelph11th_Kanzan_Cutler_P1050916.jpg

and Sophia (skips Prince Edward). This group of four private 'Kanzan' should look look nice with the street trees.

I'll pick up west of Main in the next posting.

Going west of Main on 11th, the 'Kanzan' pick up again at Ontario. Here they are on 11th at Ontario and at Columbia. The third photo is on Ontario up at 10th. I didn't walk up there. I know, one block. I'm sure they're 'Kanzan'.

At 115 W. 11th is what I think is a 'Beni-shidare' in a yard. No flowers left at all.

'Accolade' cherries on the north side of Vancouver City Hall are looking perfect right now, worth a trip. Across Yukon, the 'Beni-shidare', photographed in previous years, is also in bloom. And the 'Pandora' trees at Mount Pleasant Community Centre are in full bloom.

Could I add some pictures to the Mount Pleasant Pandora series? I took these on March 6, 2015.

    Kanzan's last gasp
There is a row of 'Kanzan' along 10th from Cambie to Yukon, and another row in the parking lot north of 10th. Among those trees are two that are barely hanging on to the name.
    20150407_10thYukon_Kanzan_Cutler_150254.jpg 20150407_10thYukon_Kanzan-avium_Cutler_150401.jpg 20150407_10thYukon_Kanzan-avium_Cutler_150437.jpg

On Yukon at 10th, on the city hall side, is a nice-looking row of 'Kanzan'.
    20150407_Yukon10th_Kanzan_Cutler_150612.jpg

This neighbourhood has lots of stuff going on, particularly 'Kanzan' on 11th and 14th. I'll get to them another day. I was hoping to find an avium 'Plena', and at the end of my walk, I did, on Alberta just south of 12th, two trees.
    20150407_12thAlberta_aviumPlena_Cutler_160510.jpg 20150407_12thAlberta_aviumPlena_Cutler_160553.jpg

I'm never really hoping to find a 'Kiku-shidare-zakura', but this one seems healthy enough, if characteristically ungainly. On 13th at Alberta.

    'Kanzan', 'Shiro-fugen' and sweet cherries

'Kanzan' on 11th are already on our map, running from Yukon to Fraser and beyond, skipping the occasional block. They're not shown here, as they look just like these next ones. On 14th, not on the map, they run three blocks, from Alberta to Ontario, and just a bit beyond Manitoba.
    20150407_14thAlberta_Kanzan_Cutler_160012.jpg 20150407_14thColumbia_Kanzan_Cutler_152041.jpg 20150407_14thColumbia_Kanzan_Cutler_152052.jpg

Many of these are low-grafted, or at least I'm assuming that those hefty roots belong to avium rootstock.
    20150407_14thColumbia_Kanzan_Cutler_152352.jpg 20150407_14thColumbia_Kanzan_Cutler_152412.jpg 20150407_14thColumbia_Kanzan_Cutler_152526.jpg 20150407_14thColumbia_Kanzan_Cutler_152540.jpg

The great divide: the west side gets 'Kanzan'; the east side gets sweet cherries. Actually, that's not really true, but it's sort of the case on 14th. There are still a few 'Kanzan', but there are lots of sweet cherries around here. This is one of several in a lane running north perpendicular to 14th, just east of Ontario. It's a very large tree, with the trunk split from close to the ground.
    20150407_14thOntario_Kanzan_Cutler_153206.jpg 20150407_14thOntario_avium_Cutler_153307.jpg 20150407_14thOntario_avium_Cutler_153358.jpg 20150407_14thOntario_avium_Cutler_153421.jpg

There is one of the street trees that didn't start out as a sweet cherry.
    20150407_14thOntario_Kanzan-avium_Cutler_153542.jpg

Speaking of sweet cherries, I didn't make a note of what I wanted to check out on 14th near Manitoba (I think I wanted to confirm the 'Kanzan' ID; I see a note that a neighbour told me about the cherries here), but near to where my marker was is this very lovely young avium cherry. Does the term mazzard apply to trees that look like this, or to just those tall things that seem to be the most common shape?
    20150407_27W14thManitoba_avium_Cutler_152846.jpg 20150407_27W14thManitoba_avium_Cutler_152855.jpg 20150407_27W14thManitoba_avium_Cutler_152939.jpg 20150407_27W14thManitoba_avium_Cutler_152909.jpg

In the mix along 14th at Manitoba, are single young 'Shiro-fugen'.
    20150407_118W14thColumbia_Shirofugen_Cutler_152455.jpg 20150407_118W14thColumbia_Shirofugen_Cutler_152518.jpg 20150407_107W14thManitobaShirofugen_Cutler_152702.jpg 20150407_107W14thManitobaShirofugen_Cutler_152712.jpg

That was 14th. On 13th at Columbia is a single very nice-looking 'Kanzan' in a yard.
    20150407_13thColumbia_Kanzan_Cutler_151826.jpg 20150407_13thColumbia_Kanzan_Cutler_151900.jpg

And on 15th west from Manitoba are several 'Kanzan' on the north side of the street.
