Wild Russian Orchid

    Beautiful orchid species. I checked my reference books and http://www.orchidspecies.com/indexqrsel.htm it fits for location and genus but seems to be too tall for described species. There are many varieties spread throughout Europe so it could just be a local variety of D. maculata (and information in references does vary). Thanks for sharing.

    Thank you for sharing this photo! It reminds me about forest not far from Moscow when I lived there. We even plant a few in our garden and they bloomed the whole summer.

    how many orchids are native to russia there must be a vast range for the geography of the location is so varying

    Its common distribution from the Russian region to the Northern region of China and the DPRK, I found some at the Changbia Mountain last summer they are Gyanadenia conopsea.

    Sorry, but the plant in the photo is clearly a Dactylorhiza. The shape of the flowers is different, and notice the spots too.

    you are right. In my country (vietnam) orchid is very popular.we choose orchid as a gift for someone. We put a big vase of orchid for decorating our living room . It seem like a mode in my country .
