Tree ID

    In September, I moved into a home in San Diego. I would like to identify this tree. It appears to have already bloomed, and what is left are the dried flowers with tiny spine-like seeds. These seeds can penetrate into the soles of bare feet.

    Thank you for the ID. I am anticipating the blooming of the tree this spring/summer.

    Probably M. excelsa, as that is planted as an ornamental in California.
