My silver maple is in full bloom, which means that before long I'll be inundated with "helicopters". Zonebreaker, I'll contact you via email when they're ready to ship. Based on experience here, all it takes is a wee bit of water and you should have near 100% germination. I always get thousands of volunteer seedlings in my beds every year. Speaking of which (and aside from the point of the thread) - I also perused the selection of trees available at Lowe's lately (needed some mole control) and am always somewhat flabbergasted to see 4-5 ft (1.2-1.5 m) silver maples for sale. If you grew one from seed, which is readily available on almost any street here in the spring, you'd easily have a tree that size by the second year, if not bigger!
Hi again! Hey Zonebreaker, Did you get some Silver Maple keys yet? I happened on some tress in seed today and grabbed you a ziploc bag full. If you still need them drop me a line and I can mail them. If so, would you like them with wings or without? Dennis
Zonebreaker, a baggie of Red Maple Acer rubrum are on their way to you. I plan on sourcing some Black and Sugar maple keys this fall. That will finish off all the maples that are native to my area that you had on your list. Dennis

If only I would have seen this forum a month ago. I do have plenty of silver leaf and rubrum all over my yard in North Carolina.
A little reminder, still looking for these Acer saccharum Black Maple Acer nigrum Chalk Maple Acer leucoderme Rocky Mountain Maple Acer glabrum Thanks to all who have contributed so far!
I was hoping to provide the Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum) and Black Maple (Acer nigrum) but I seem to be striking out. All the trees I have been monitoring did not set any seed. Unless this happens after leaf drop, but I don't think so. I am waiting to hear if a co-worker's fathers trees set any seed. He has a sugar bush. Dennis
Hey Zonebreaker, good news. If you are still looking for Acer saccharum I think I may be able to help. A co-worker who wants me to start some replacement trees for the older tress on her property brought in some samaras that the wind blew off. They are Acer saccharum. All the ones I received were sterile as they were immature, but the tree has lots on it. I expect to receive plenty this fall and can send you some if you still need them. Dennis
Hi Dennis That want be nessesery i got hold of them last winter, but thanks anyway! Acers still missing Black Maple Acer nigrum Chalk Maple Acer leucoderme Rocky Mountain Maple Acer glabrum Thanks!
Here is a uppdate on the cold hardiness testing on maples. acer sacharinum now on the second year, growing strong. some of the small seedlings had a little topp dieback , but most of them are all right. they are tested in small containers , raised beds and ordinary beds. No difference in survivalrate. Acer rubrum now on second year same as the sacharinums but slower grower.' Acer negundo now on the second year plants are 1,7 m. No problems. Acer macrophyllum first year, strong plants. macrophyllum survived the feild mouse feast. We had a terrible fieldmouse problem this winter. I protected the plants that had come up, but forgot the seeds that i was stratififying in the basment. they had a feast in my pots.... so still missing circinatum, Black Maple Acer nigrum ,Chalk Maple Acer leucoderme Rocky Mountain Maple Acer glabrum Thanks to all that have contributed with seeds.
Hi zonebreaker, I am also having a huge field mice problem this year in my garden but here they are for the moment feasting in my hostas: I have lost half of them so far. Can you also make a point on the other Japanese maples you are growing, how are they doing this year? Gomero
