I thought it was something in the Apocynaceae, but didn't know the species, so I asked Douglas Justice, Curator of Collections here at UBC.

    His reply?

    Pachypodium brevicaule

That is a fascinating plant. Does anyone know where I could find seeds/cuttings over on Vancouver Island?

I would love to add that to my collection!

Are you a member of the Victoria Cactus & Succulent Society? Talking (and eventually trading) with other enthusiasts is sometimes the best way to find specialty plants. I notice they have a sale scheduled in May, if you want to take your chances that one will be there.
