I recently bought this unknown (at least to me) Can anyone shed some light on where it came from and it's characteristics. I find nothing in Vertrees 3rd edition.
    Thanks

    Tom,
I do not see this cultivar in the literature either.
Best for you to ask the person/place you bought it from about its whereabouts etc.
Many people graft maples and just name them locally. Maybe the name is of a cultivar
already named or a seedling etc. This proliferation of names and misidentifications etc
is a nightmare for those of us enthusiasts who want to keep clarity in the name/gene pool, but...
Enjoy your lovely tree, focus on its wonder because it doesn't care about its name only we do.

I saw a maple being grown by an Oregon grower last fall while at the maple meeting in portland. It was a 'Sangu Kaku' type with red bark. It was from Canada and supposedly was very hardy. I cant remeber the name, but "Harvest Orange" sounds familar.

Is it a red barked palmatum?

Thanks for the replies, but I don't think it can be related to Sango Kaku due to its green bark.
