I live on Saltspring Islaand and in the past year the plant has taken over the yard .

What do I use to get rid of it ??
    What time of year ?

    Thanks .

the time of the year does not matter if its a pest. you should dig it up.

I did some digging this year but the growth has gotten out of control .

I have read the other posts and face the same problems .

It was suggested to put lime on the butter cup areas .

My wife is concerned it would harm our cats and any other animal walking in the area .

Any comment on the use of lime and time of year if it can be used ?

if you don't have any other valuable plants there, try pouring saltwater over the infested areas as salt would burn and kill its root. I don't think anyone has tried this method before but once our house had a sewage leak and the saltwater flowed to our yard and killed our 50 year old banyan trees in 2 days. it was sad, but I learned something.

remember, flush your yard with freshwater afterwards and don't use to much salt or it might permanently damage your yard.

Judging by how well Ranunculus grows in my Limy (pH 8.5) soil I doubt
it would do much to the infestation. BTW there are several plants called
"Buttercup" so it might help to be more specific which genus you mean.

then, I guess maybe only digging works? or are there other methods.

ranunculus is quite tough so normal weed control chemicals might not work on it.

Broadleaf weedkillers (2,4-D)are effective however many are squeamish about using them around homes and pets.
