Hi, Thanks for all the replies to my earlier posts. I saw this plant in my garden area but I had not planted anything there. I kind of like the flower clusters, and wonder what plant it is and if it is a weed. Again, thanks for all the help.
Catchfly, perhaps. Silene armeria. To answer your title question---heck, no! It's a wildflower. I've had it in my backyard for years and think it's lovely. Gorgeous color.
Whether or not anything is a weed is a point of view rather than an absolute. (I wish my volunteer plants looked like that...) :]
HaHa Fen, This summer, after a stray cat raised a nest of kittens in the backyard, crow nesting in the pine tree and a mice ran into the house, I guess I deserve this volunteer plant. I had not seeb it before all these years and none from any neighbors' gardens. It does looks nice, and with all the hummingbird seed pack flowers identified by all the knowledgable people here, I had planned to harvest all their seeds and plant them next year in the garden. Tired of all the same seed packs that can be bought in Edmonton. Thanks all for the help.
