My two main candidates for this wild orchid are  Dactylorhiza masculta (my main choice) and Dactylorhiza fuchii. This orchid was found at around 1000 meters in altitude in the Swiss Jura Mountains last weekend; sub-alpine pasture / field. Sorry but I didn't get a picture of the leaf structure. The stalk height, from the ground is around 20 cm.

    Thanks in advance
    Charles

Sorry, don't know which orchid you have there, but expect you're likely thinking of Dactylorhiza maculata and D. fuchsii to research.

    Could it be Dactylorhiza incarnata?

Yes, I got the spelling wrong; which is bad because the spelling I used is very close to the spelling of another similar wild orchid.

Now that I'm aware of this orchid I have seen it everywhere; pasture borders, deep forest, and forest edge. It seems to be widespread and pretty common. I now have some pictures of the leaves and they're the key to identification. It is clearly a D. maculata.

    Thanks
    Charles
