I bought this beautiful small tree from the Haskell nursery in 2005 (the year after Allen died), and the tag said "reticulata" --I am hoping someone will recognize it and know the name of he cultivar. Thank you. Trying again to include the two photos omy unidentified Acer. f
Re: Acer palmatum 'Peaches and Cream' I hadn't submitted a post to UBC forums in a while, and just after I submitted my query re: my "unidentified Acer" from Haskell Nursery, the thread on the Forum for 'Peaches and Cream' appeared on my screen. I had explored the possibility of P&C for my tree, but the P&C lobes are much longer, and in fact the entire leaf is larger. Also, my tree does not show pink in the spring, only the light and dark chartreuse variation.
Re: Acer palmatum 'Peaches and Cream' Here is a photo taken 10-14-2009 of the same tree ("reticulata")
Re: Acer palmatum 'Peaches and Cream' The old anglo name for Shigitatsu sawa is 'Reticulatum.' Check out this thread: http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=30815&highlight=shigitatsu+sawa My guess is that's what you've got. -E
Re: Acer palmatum 'Peaches and Cream' MANY thanks for the link, and I'm fairly certain that you are right. In fact, there it is in my copy of Vertrees and Gregory --under my nose! Thanks again.
Re: Acer palmatum 'Peaches and Cream' Have not had it tested but everything here grows exceedingly well, mainly because I mulch heavily with rotted leaf mulch enriched with rotted horse manure --has worked wonders for more than 20 years.
One possibility is 'Shigitatsu sawa', this has often been sold as 'Reticulatum' in the past. Edit: never mind, question already answered in another thread. Edit2: merged all the posts about this maple into one thread, it was a bit off topic in the 'Peaches and Cream' gallery posting.
