Can anyone tell me what this is? There are several of them on one of my cedar trees. It is about the size of a baseball. Not a hornet's nest. Kind of hard. I didn't want to touch it. When you shake the branch stuff falls off it it. I thought they were worms, but it looked like bristles. I can take more pictures if necessary. I have never seen these before. Not sharp like a pine cone.
The tree is a juniper, not a cedar. The 'thing' is a rust disease, Gymnosporangium juniperi-virginianae.
