Have suddenly found patches of bentgrass in my otherwise weed free lawn. Mainly small clumps lying close to the ground, in an area say 3 feet across. Dont know where it came from, possible the gardeners lawn mower. Have pulled out numerous little sprouts: is there a better way of getting rid of it?? Here in North Vancouver we get more rain than some, and have lots of tall trees, cedars etc. We love our birds so dont want to kill the bentgrass with chemicals. Help appreciated. Ellis
Straighten it out so it isn't bent any more? (sorry, couldn't resist!) Can't think of anything other than digging it out, or putting down a sheet of thick black plastic to starve it of light.
Nasty stuff. It is best like most unwanted weeds to get to it before it goes to seed. Bent grass had a tenancy to crowd out other grass by blocking out its sunlight. It seems to go to seed very quickly in my yard. Mark the spots where it grows and regularly keep an eye on it and dig it out.
