    Hi,
I have many of these plants and altho some of them are not attacked by something that chomps on their leaves, others are.
I don't want to use any nasty systemic poisons..
    Ideas?
    Thanks Jane

Weevil damage is frequent on these. As with primroses, grubs (active in summer) may shear older plants off near the soil line, so that when wilting specimens that do not remain turgid despite watering are examined, these are found to be a sort of rootless husk sitting on top of the ground/

Adults chew the leaves, by straddling the margins and gnawing their way short distances in. This results in comparatively fine-textured holes being made, if large, angular sections (as are removed by cutworms) are being taken out or damage is otherwise different you may have another type of animal at work.

If you inspect and find weevils parasitic nematodes are sold for them.
