This (these) have me stumped. The first two pictures were taken late last September. The berries are a little large for elderberries. They're also slightly flattened on two sides. The second two pictures are from a sapling I found a couple of weeks ago. The leaves are different, so I didn't associate the two until yesterday. The blooms are now gone, and the berries are identical. The flowers look like elderberry, but every elderberry I've found has ovate leaves, while these are elliptic. The two trees are about 10 miles apart. The first is growing in an open field next to a river. The second is growing on a wooded hillside. Can anybody help with this?

You folks are good! Thank You! Pistacia chinensis looks like a dead ringer. As suggested, attached is a shot of the entire tree. It's a poorly shaped young tree, as per the descriptions.
