A very nice cultivar with outrageous bark. The bark has a sticky sheen that makes it shine more than other red bark maples. Shruby grower like the species.

Leaves may scorch and drop early if not well sited.

When placed in sun with a good balance of afternoon shade the leaves bronze very nicely. Which is similar to many of the maples.

I planted a Pacific Fire last winter. It wasn't happy where it was. I thought the filtered light was good as well as the soil. It dropped its leaves early. I decided to move it where I would water the little fella a little more responsibly. We will see what happens this year.

    hi
i am looking for this one
esveld do not have it and never had one
that is strange. It is said that it is a perfect sangokaku with larger leaves and without problems of black spots and other fungal problems
do you know where i can order one for a shipment to France?
    thanks !

I am pretty sure that you can find nurseries in the US that will be happy to ship to you as many 'Pacific Fire' as you wish, as long as you make the full payment in advance. A different matter is whether those plants will ever reach your garden. To maximize the chances for that happening, the sender must provide all the phytosanitary certificates required by France and, here, the number of candidate nurseries shrink considerably since most are not familiar with those requirements and are probably unwilling to go through the hassle for a small order.

A more practical option would be to find scions and have them grafted in Europe.

The first pic shows the very young plant in the winter. The second the leaves in April and the third the leaves and bark in July.

I have a few gallons and a few liners of this maple. I also have five 7gal's about 6' tall, also an old timer of about 15- 30 years old, it is in a 25gal container and is about 7' tall. The color of bark seems more of a yellowish orange, rather than a red orange like, sango kaku or winter flame.......................... you can reach me at delsjapanesemaples@hotmail.com or 541-688-5587 ask for John or Del

we have a few 1 gallon, and some liners, a few 7 gallon and one 25 gallon
    prices start at 17.00

'Pacific Fire' is a beautiful tree. Its in morning sun and afternoon shade. It seem to be growing well in the spot I have it. I'm hoping that it does not have the normal mildew problem I have with the circinatums.

Wonderful large leaves D. I think that bark could give any of the Coral bark Acer palmatum maples a good run for their money.
