Someone gave me a small Hoya cutting with two nodes and several inches of stem below it. The lower one has three leaves but the upper has only one small emerging leaf. Should I trim the lower leaves and plant that node or will roots grow from the stem itself if I put it in water? The stem has little bumps on it- will these root or are they just protrusions on the bark. Is it better to start in water or soil mix regardless of trimming the lower leaves or not? With such a small cutting I didn't want to cut away almost all of the foliage just to have an exposed node. Could I even plant the lower node just at soil level with leaves attached? Thanks

    Re: Hoya propagation

For hoya propagation, I use very sandy soil mixture. No need to remove leaves, however, do not cover them in soil. These plants root very easily. Excess of water could damage the cutting. So better not put it in water.
