Moss balls c bonzai?

    Thought I'd share these photos of moss covered balls with tiny trees and what looks like bonzai-ed chrysanthemums taken in Kyoto in late November.

    Here are the chrysanthemums.

    johnny - interesting! Did you find out if this is a growing technique? Or is it a temporary display method?

    The moss ball bonsai were on sale at various shops in Kyoto but I was unable to get any other information other than they were to be watered every day. But aren't they great?! Some of them have quite a girth and the plants vary from heather to Japanese maples and other trees to tropicals. I will upload another photo of a display outside a shop in the Higashiyama district of Kyoto. The one on the left with the crabapple like fruit is offered at US250.00.
