Hello to all out there, and a Happy new to y'all! The plant in question (The one with the small yellow flowers) I was told is an 'Oxalis' but, as to what species/type/ genus they did not know. I was given a of this cutting a couple of years ago, and have always managed to save a cutting every year and bring it indoors! This year, I did not manage to do so, (due to a family member needing close attention due to a serious illness), the frost got to it, and I'm afraid I've lost it! If anyone knows what it is, I will try and find another one somewhere out there! Many thanks to all out there if you can help me identify it! KEN.
O.k, thanks, hope there is someone out there who does know what it is! If i find out,i'll let you know . Bestest. Ken.
Sorry Joclyn, You were wrong, A friend of mine whom I had not been in contact with for some time sent me a 'Happy NewYear' email. I remembered he is a member of the Royal Horticultural Society, I sent him the photo, he did his research for me and came up with the definitive answer below! Oxalis stricta (also known as Yellow Wood-sorrel). There you go! It seems the person whom gave me the cutting in the first instance was right all along,....it is a species of OXALIS after all! God bless! KEN.
i'm glad your friend got in touch so you could clarify what the plant is!! ha! learn something new every day! i didn't know the wood sorrel's were in the oxalis family!
There has been another thread on this in the last couple of days. Chap was trying to get rid of it. Some one's weed is someones rare plant. For me it is a weed. http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=59861 Liz
'Some one's weed is someones rare plant. For me it is a weed.' Liz. Fair enough Liz, but the other half (Better half?) she just loves it, says its bright yellow flowers cheer her up no end when its in flower! Can't say that its a problem plant either, (Well, the variety we had) it stayed in the container and never spread anywhere..............We shall miss it!..............That is until I can find another like it! Betest, KEN. Joclyn, No worries,.........Nobody's perfect!.................I'm as close as your gonna get,, Yuk, yuk, yuk,................Only kidding! Bestest, KEN.
I do not believe that this plant is Oxalis stricta. There are lots of Oxalis species, but I guess that your specimens resemble Oxalis corniculata more closely, because they have reddish leaves and the stems are creeping (probably with roots at the nodes). http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=59861 In any case the species in this thread is different from the species in the thread http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=59861!
Thanks for your reply Robert, I'll obtain a sample of both types, (Stricta & Corniculata), that way I'll be assured of satisfaction? Now, my main concern is how to get a few seeds, or plants of the above, if anyone out there can help on this problem I would be grateful, as it appears most posts on the above class them as 'Weeds', which they undoubtedly are,.... if ones garden is over-run with them! Bestest, KEN.
