You call that expensive??? Less than 2 bucks is a bargain. http://www.natan.net/health/avocado.shtml Third paragraph, dude describes his experience with avocado-pit consumption. I gather the experience was not a fatally toxic one. I must agree with his philosophy of moderation and caution whilst satisfying his curiosity! Let us know what happens: if you choose to give it a go, what it was like; or not.
Has anyone come across the Mexican Avocado with edible leaves? I would love to get some seeds and grow it.
By the way! I have tried to eat the Avocado pit, but it tasted so bad that I couldnt swallow it. I havent tried the leaves yet, but if I have chance I will. With some balsamic vinegar and olive oil? Yes Timurv123 it is a matter of survival! Could you spare some change?
Please DON'T eat things when in doubt! In similar financial circumstances, I once gathered many sweet-pea pods, and steamed the peas. They looked and smelled just like edible peas, and I was hungry! But at the last minute I decided to call Poison Control Hotline. I guess God really does look after fools & chidren! Poison control workers informed me that even a few of those gorgeous little peas would have paralyzed and killed me. Since then, my motto is, when in doubt, DON'T!
Earth worms are far more invaluable to the body. But not to the soul.... Do not eat anything that has never attained farmed status in your region, it could kill you... our local farmers market would not be qualified to advise us on tropical vegetation for consumption, so be wary, conversely, locally you never see corn stalks on the menu nor do you of any nightshade plant, other than the fruit... I tried pepper plant tips, not the greatest either...and these were from my garden patch!
Im lucky to get an avocado seed that has started to root while inside the fruit. I have 8 seeds now 2 of them rooted inside the fruit. STill waiting for development. SO excited!
