Shot in 'his' garden; the graves of South African cactus pioneer Marthinus Malherbe and his wife Molly Darling. More know about Malherbe in the USA than in his own home land. Not a single South African (amateur) botanist has discovered so many new succulent plant species in the 'veld' than Malherbe.
We are proud to have this couple in our garden. We succeeded in restoring and extending this 24 year long neglected and forgotten South African historical garden.
More about Soekershof and its history plus some photo's from earlier today.

Great information! Wonderful garden pix! I take it, then, that Aloinopsis malherbei was most likely named after him?

Thanks for sharing ...and enlightening us! :)

The most prominent visible aloe specie is the quiver tree (Aloe dichotoma) which originates from Namibia. There are about 100 different genuine aloe species in the gardens plus tens of aloe hybrids in another spot on the premises.
