    It appears, unfortunately, that they will still be using "pure plastic" to encase the banana leaf fibers. I was hoping they would be using them as a biodegradable substitute for plastic.

    Doesn't banana fibre make good paper? I'm surprised they don't already have uses for it, if nothing else, as fuel.

    Banana leaves are used in Polynesian cooking, also as disposable plates. There is a move to make plates with leaves stuck together with starch as a commercial venture in the UK.
    Is anybody using geothermal hot water to grow bananas in BC polytunnels? It used to be all the rage in Iceland, but I think cheap imports from Venezuala have cut down that market, this may change now Iceland has applied to join the EC.
