A teacher at my son's school gave him the succulent in the attached photos. The teacher does not know what it is. We would like assistance with identifying it so that he can study up on the plant's care needs.
Welcome tabel. Looks like Euphorbia flanaganii. Common name "Medusa's head". Be very careful of the sap. Quote....."In some species the poison is only mild, but in others it is extremely dangerous" See link http://images.google.com/imgres?img...n-gb:IE-SearchBox&rlz=1I7SUNA_en-GB&sa=N&um=1 http://www.euphorbia.de/giftstart_e.htm http://www.cssainc.org/index.php?Itemid=212&id=207&option=com_content&task=view
I second E flannigani. It is also quite a nice big specimen. And do watch the sap on broken branches. It is caustic and often a skin irritant.
It's funny how some people react to sap that is known to cause skin problems, while it has no effect on others... I had this plant yrs ago and the sap was not a problem...
I had access to 100's of Euphorbias - a major collection (via Herman Schwartz) and a major grower in Tucson. Yes the sap is mildly toxic. A colleague chopped off an Aloe vera branch and stuck it onto his pupil when he got some Euphorbia juice in his eye (brushed himself with a contaminated glove as I recall). Silver surfer's id is correct.
