I went on a trip into the woods and it was mostly a bust but I did find a couple specimens and want to be sure they are what I think they are.
First is a chanterelle and the second is what I believe to be a lobster mushroom

    Nice! Yes chanterelle and lobster.
I found some lobster too recently: Had some thinly sliced, sauteed, added to soup - Num!

    awesome.
I found 4 lobsters, there were some neighbouring mushrooms that were still white.
I only found 2 chanterelles lol. I saw a few tiny yellow caps coming up from the ground and I figure they could be chanterelles but they need some time to grow. I'm hoping to make another hike out on Saturday in another location.
I found a few false ones growing on dead wood. Took lots of pictures on my walk of lots of mushrooms.

Are the hosts of the lobster mushroom always safe to eat?

When the host is parasitized they are safe to eat: there are no known exceptions. When the host is unparasitized, several of them are not edible.

Thanks Mycorob. The reason I asked is a friend just dropped off ~10lbs of Lobsters yesterday because he is afraid to eat them. Guess I better fire up the frying pan .....
