My mother has 2 bougainvilleas on a trellis. One appears to be dead, the other is still flowering a little. The problem I see is all over both of them are small holes with like sawdust , as if someone took a small drill bit and drilled perfectly round holes in it. What insect does this and how do I save the still serviving plant ??? We live in southern California, and I have never seen this befor.

usually borers or longicorn beetles do that sort of damage in the trunks of wounded or stressed plants, theres not alot of control for them though. You can try poking a piece of wire into the hole to see if you can kill them or just take out the plant and destroy it before they move to one of your other plants. MAke sure they ARE borers first though.
