One of the shoots came of because it rotted. I heard that you can make a new plant with it but I don't know how. How do I stop the rot, I keep it fairly dry. Do they go dorment in the winter

I've had luck with propagating aloe by division, so you need a little clump with roots.

Maybe by just cutting out the rotted parts you can stop the problem. Do you see any pest, such as mealybugs? They look like tiny pieces of cotton, and would make the plant leaves a little sticky.

What sort of soil / pot / sunlight do you have? For an indoor plant I'd go with light cactus soil and a clay pot in bright light.
