I'm asking for my sister: She has a huge Saguaro cactus at her home. It looks to be about 15 ft tall. This cacti lost one of it arms during a hot spell. Is there anything they can do for this cacti to survive? Can they replant the arm that came off. Also it left a hugh hole on the main stem.

I'm not an expert but since no-one else has replied i'll have a go....

I don't think the main cactus will suffer too much from losing an arm, it probably happens all the time in the wild. The Hole will heal over in time and the plant will carry on with its business of growing. The arm that fell off, leave it for a few days for the wound to callous over (dry up) and then stick it in some fast-draining soil mix (i use a mix of half regular compost and half sand) and sprinkle the soil with water very occasionally until it roots and establishes itself. Then treat it exactly like the parent plant.

Can you get a pic? I'd just love to see a 15ft cactus.

Hope that helps and good luck to your sis.
