How do you know it is a killer bee? You actually got close enough? I am no fan of bees but I have looked forward to seeing the non-killer variety in my garden- as long as they are far from me. I hope the bees do a good job pollinating.

Well, he's not the real "africanized" killer but he will definitely acost you when he gets sick of having his picture taken :) And, yes, I do tend to get dangerously close to these guys. . .I posted two more pictures I got this morning, it's the big guy (from the first picture) and I'm going to go with his girlfriend based on the coloring. The other picture is of the big guy alone again - I posted that one for you worldharmony because I'm about a foot away from him there (I'm pretty sure I didn't have to use my zoom on that one) closest I've ever got to one of those bees as of yet . . . now you can say you've seen one up close without actually having to get close to one :) lyn

Thank you for posting these photos! You are certainly braver than I am. We have teeny bees all over the garden, plus some of the safer bumblebees. So far I have not been stung but I worry that I will disturb one while picking fruit.

Great pictures. Reminds me of this one I took of a wasp relative on an oleander flower.

I got pretty close, but the zoom function on a camera is such a wonderful thing! :D

    Thanks for sharing, blynb!
