We found this plant growing in the shelter belt, near the edge by the farm yard. It appears to be a low growing type of plant. The red berries are on a stem that is above the leaves in clusters. Did not see any flowers on the plant, just saw the berries after they turned red. What is this plant and are these berries edible?

    Thank you for your assistance.

Thank you. I did google search on baneberry and found more information with other pictures that match the plant I have. Found out that we should not eat the berries. Montana.plant-life.org says
"As few as 2 berries can cause severe cramps, headaches, vomiting, bloody diarrhea and/or dizziness. Severe poisoning results in paralysis of the respiratory system and cardiac arrest."

    Thanks again for the assistance.
