    Hello,

My wife and I just purchase 5 fruit trees from a nursery. 2 type of cherry, 2 type of plum and one fuji apple tree. All are approx. 6-9 feet tall and in 5 gallon + containers.

The guy at the nursery recommended to dig to the clay hardpan, (which is about 10 inches in my yard ) if it is shallow- plant the tree above the hardpan because of future drainage issues, add 2 handfulls of bone meal, raise the garden bed by covering the root ball with a high grade topsoil like sand/compost.

    Does his recommendation sound right?

If anyone has any experience with this scenario, please let me know what you did.
    Thanks

Re-planting your fruit trees.if you have clay close to the surface and you wish to improve your drainage use loads of gypsum or you can make a mound and plant them .fertilizer just a good citrus food as citrus are hungry plants.
