I am hoping members with better idea of growth habit of this tree can advice me.

It is Seiryu Japanese maple, I am not sure if I should clean up the thin branches growing from the lower area of the tree. Would pruning off these and exposing the bare trunk (everything around or near the "V" branch) make the tree look better? Or should I let them grow and they will be thick branches one day?

    Pictures are here:

    Thanks in advnace..

I would say to leave it alone. those little branches and leaves help shade the trunk from direct sun and prevent sunburn to the bark. cosmetically I think it looks fine.

    PoorOwner,

Your tree looks good I would leave it alone for now. It looks like it has plenty of room to grow.

Here is a picture of my Seiryu : )
