I bought this plant from a Garden Shop last year and threw away the name. I would appreciate if someone could I.D. it for me. It requires little water, lots of sun, and it has a few thorns. Please see attachment for further details.

This is Bougainvillea, a lovely tropical climbing or scrambling shrub, named after Louis-Antoine de Bougainville (1729-1811), French renaissance man: navigator, soldier, statesman and mathematician. He formed the first settlement in the Falkland Islands and voyaged round the world in the 1760s. He survived a duel and the French Revolution and ended his life growing roses.
