I have 3 two year old apple trees, Granny Smith, Golden Delicious and Red Delicious. The Granny Smith and Golden Delicious have bloomed within the last 2 wks (first part of April), but the Red Delicious has only buds and has not bloomed yet. All trees have been fertilized at the same time, and are all in the same area of my yard, about 15 feet apart. I live in Zone 1 in Texas, and zone 8ed on the national planting chart ( East Texas). I am concerned that the pollination will not be done from the other 2 trees due to late blooming. Can someone tell me why the Red Delicious is so much later to bloom? Is this an expected yearly outcome?

Not to worry; Red Delicious for the most part is self-fertile, and the Golden Delicious is pollinating the Granny Smith just fine. All three of them are very reliable bearers. Be patient.

    Applenut,

Thank you so much. Just wanted to make sure it was going to be ok. They are my first apple trees, and I am learning along the way.
    Thanks again!
