I just planted 9 - 6 ft. Emerald 'smaragd' Cedars last weekend. They were dug from a farm and transplanted 90 minutes later in my yard. I used a root stimulator for the first watering. I am now worried they are too far apart to form a hedge. I planted them on 30" centres and I read last night that they should be planted on 2' centres or less. Should I move them again or will this spacing work as well with a little more patience? Thanks for your thoughts.
This is not a dwarf variety. They are likely to merge in time. It's a matter of how long you are willing to wait.
30" on center is a common planting distance for long term survival. If you plant closer they may become a solid hedge sooner but you may run in to problems in the later years due to crowding.
