Did you ever get a response from the forum or elsewhere?

A Nursery in B.C. has some small plants : http://www.plantexplorers.com/twiningvine/index.php
This plant can become a tad aggressive if it likes the location it is placed in the garden .
The bright red berries in the Fall are what I like most about this plant .

    S. rubriflora doesn't seem to be a vigorous, high-climbing species like S. chinensis etc.

Vigorous I do not need, but I have found the grandiflora v. rubiflora at One Green World in Oregon.

I seen S. rubriflora at Kew, where it was small and on a wall, and have been growing one for some years on a flowering ash tree in Island County, WA where I have had trouble getting it to climb up into the branches.
