I have a Schefflera that has some blackish stems. It has loss quite a lot of leaves since I've had it. Some of the leaves are yellow and some are a dark brown/blackish colour. I cut a few of the black stems and they are a little softer than the rest but the "bark" peels off easily and it is kind of sticky under it. Does this sound like stem rot? And if so is there anything I can do to save this plant. There are also some blackish leaves on stems that appear to be healthy. Thanks

    Probably a bacterial infestation.

If you want to take drastic measures, repot after decimating all infected areas, to a compact size, it may come back this spring... water sparingly...

How would I "decimate all infected areas"?

More specifically, cut to all 'clean', to remove infected areas of the plant...

Thanks for the help. One more question...do you have any idea of what causes the problem? Could it be misting?
