Small bananas, and, according to the image name tag Pear-Banana Oct08 (4) 30.jpg, a pear ;-))

Small bananas of the species Musa sapentium or M. sapentium x paradisica (more likely the latter, given your location), and the common name in Ecuador is "Oritos", and in Brazil where the cultivar comes from they're "Ouros." I think Dole calls them "Baby Bananas."

Normal peach, maybe a bit on the big side.

    Michael, you are so smart!

    Peach with Dole's "Baby Banana"

    Peach with Musa acuminata 'Cavendish'

I don't think Dole's Baby Banana is the same as the Manzanos from Ecuador. The later are chubbier. It's closer to lady finger bananas.

I am used the the multitude of varieties of bananas available back in Malaysia.

    But what about that peach?

Oooh, now it's two different size plates . . . one with mini-bananas is 3.5 boards wide, one with cavendish bananas is 4.4 boards wide . . . unless they're different width boards . . . very sly!

Hmmm . . . same peach in both pics, and 1.8 boards wide in both pics, so the boards are the same, the plates are different . .

    ;-)

Without the uniform boards of the hardwood flow, scale seems easier to grasp when viewing objects at an angle.

Ah, but that's not a peach at all... That's a nectarine!

And, if I'm not mistaken, three sizes of plates and two sizes of bananas....

Well, you are right, Lorax. I happened to run out of peaches, except that big one.

Maybe this will clarify the confusion.

That's still a rather large peach, don't you agree? While 20 ounces is only 2/3 of the world record weight of 30.9 ounces, it still took a family of four to eat one!

Whoa. My brain reels. Does this sequence belong under Optical Illusions (152.147), Psychology (150) or Art History (709)*...? Even Dewey himself would be nonplussed. As would Roald Dahl, who would be highly amused.

*Each of these photographs is a beautiful still life.

Definitely small banana. I come from Colombia where there are about 7 types of bananas being this one the smallest. Each banana is about 3 inches long. they can be eaten fresh but In the Coast (Cartagena) they put them in the sun and dry them while still in the branch. They are delicious.
