The main leader needs to be staked. If not it will grow in prostate form.

Looks to me as though it is starting to grow tesque, not prostrate ;-)

Awesome! Wow, are all those conifers belong to a home or a display nursery? Tha is one beautiful tree!

I like the mow strips and gravel area.

This conifer is in my garden in Shawnee, KS. For more information on my conifer garden it was featured in the summer issue of the ACS Conifer Quarterly.

Super! Very impressive! Where do I find ACS conifer Quarterly? I'm new here.
I've been more into perennial flower gardens, koi ponds & waterlilies, and CLEMATIS!
So I'm expanding my horizons. Plus clematis look really neat growing up conifers. Well, at least to me. lol

Members of The Conifer Society get The Conifer Quarterly which has stories, garden featured, etc- what any 'gardening group' would discuss.

    Hi Michael,

I am assuming you mean grotesque as there is no word for tesque in Webster's.

This is one conifer you either like or don't. As we all have our likes and dislikes I still appreciate your comments one way or the other.

I happen to like the unusual growing habits that many conifers offer.. The have not or grotesque conifers always catch my eye and I grow them as focal point or conversation pieces. Never a dull moment in my garden. Undesirables always welcome.

While the spelling 'Raywood's Weeping' appears to be prevalent the cultivar is listed by Welch & Haddow, World Checklist of Conifers as 'Raywood Weeping' and said by them to have been introduced by Raywood nursery in Australia.

Hi Dave, I wondered about the word also, thinking is this new word for growing upright with some weeping.
I love these type of conifers as well. And this one's color blue is so pretty and I love the shape!

Yep, "grow tesque" = grotesque ;-)

But true enough, it might do for a new word meaning 'upright with some weeping', since anything shaped like this can be considered grotesque . . .

Well I suppose you can blame poor old Raywood's grotesque mannerism on me. I am the one who staked it for its unorthodox look. Funny thing he is just as happy as he can be and never complains because of all the attention he attracts. If he gets to boastful and grows out of his assigned area I might have to make him a little more grotesque.

As you can see there have been some changes in its growth habit. A new horizontal leader on the left side with main leader taking on a more upright growing habit. I suppose in time I will have to put a support stake on the main horizontal leader to prevent damage from a heavy ice storm.

May I ask what's the tree in the background ?
