    Hello everyone,

I am looking to surprise a friend with a much-longed for heritage apple tree for his birthday in about three weeks (which is why I can't wait for the UBC apple fest). Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might be able to purchase one? I hear that they are available at certain orchards in the Interior. Any ideas or recommendations?

    Thank you for your help.

Hi; Harry Burton and his wife have a orchard on Salt Spring with about 170 varieties

http://www.appleluscious.com/ or http://derrysorchardandnursery.ca/ You could also try Bylands nursery in Kelowna as well
if you are up in the interior. There are several farms in the valley that have heritage fruit trees on site but don't sell trees. PICO maintains a budwood orchard at the Summerland Rsearch station and they may be able to help you with sources up there as well http://www.picocorp.com/. There are loads of great old heritage varieties still available so it's just a matter of choice in choosing a variety. Cheers

A lady named Laurelle is doing an apple tasting, including some heritage varieties at Art's Nursery in Surrey on the 27-28th of September... I think she grafts and sells heritage varieties as well...

Any of the many apple events this fall featuring a booth by the BC Fruit Testers Association will have apple trees for sale. The next event is the Historic Stewart Farm Apple Day at Stewart Farm in Crescent Beach on Sept 20, 2008. For more information on BCFTA events, check out the "Educational Events" link on www.derrysorchardandnursery.ca
