Can anyone identify this tree for me?

It has red berries right now, but in early spring it exploded with bright pink flowers. Was a really cool flowering.

Also, are these berries on the tree edible?

It appears to be crabapple. If you can verify that, then yes, the fruit would be edible (though possibly unpalatable due to sourness).

Hundreds of kinds, some more palatable than others.

Looks to be a flowering crabapple tree in your pictures. These are commonly planted. Cut a sample twig and take it somewhere to compare with known flowering crabapple trees, you will soon see yours is another Malus even if you do not find another specimen of the same exact variety. You could even see a certain level of commonality just comparing it with orchard apple trees.

I just wanted to let you know that the tree with red berries is in fact not a crab tree but is a choke cherry tree. They are found in the wild in colorado. When I was a little girl my grandmother and I use to pick these berries in the summer so that she could make choke cherry jelly. If you have never tried it you should. I hope that this answers you question about the bush.

Chokecherries have blackish fruits when ripe, the ones linked to by the original poster are red..

It was answered above as a flowering crabapple, of which there are hundreds of cultivated varieties.
