I have a large Blue Atlantic Cedar, on our front lawn around 50 feet. Over the past 2 weeks the number of brown needles seems to have increased. The tree usually drops quite a few but this year it seems to be extreme, they are coming down in large amounts and the tree branches seem to have more brown than usual. Any suggestions?

Here are 2 photos one close up and the other further back. There is just as many green needles as brown and this is what the entire tree looks like, it is not isolated to one area, the brown however really stands out.

We have precisely the same problems with a blue cedar in a large pot on our penthouse terace. So, We are very keen of course to hear any suggestion what could be the cause and what to do against the massive drop of needles.
Could it be infested by a type of mite or even - god forbid - by verticillium fungus?
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Does not look good. Sorry, can't help with the cause, never seen anything like this on cedars either in the wild in Turkey or in cultivation in Britain.

Seeing a lot of this down here now. Has also been discussed on internet previously, but don't remember what it was supposed to be. Search this site to see if you can bring up related thread.

    Also try GardenWeb.
