Please help identify shrub

    I was given a shrub last fall, and even though it looks familiar, I don't know what it is. It is evergreen. I'll try to add the picture. Thanks

    Around here (West Coast just north of Vancouver) Gaultheria shallon or Salal as it is known locally, would be a strange gift since it already grows wild in great profusion. It constitutes most of the dense undergrowth that surrounds forested areas and I have a wall of it down one side of my garden.
