I used to call it Dogwood, and now I'm not sure

    Hello all,

This is my first post, and I have a question about a small shrub (?) that I have always called a Dogwood... I can't exactly remember how it started. I know I had looked at some pictures and I felt it was right, but recently someone suggested that it might be a variegated Weigela. I looked it up, and the leaves definitely look right, but the flowers don't seem trumpet shaped (although it's early in the year still). I know I purchased a pink Weigela a few years ago (it died) and the flowers were definitely bigger and the trumpet shape was obvious.

Here are a couple of pictures of the plant in question (please excuse the ridiculously overgrown colony of spirea at the base of it... I'm pretty new to gardening). If anyone can help, I would love to know what this is once and for all.

P.S. It is about 7 feet tall

    Thank you!
