Pear tree needs to be saved

Discussion in 'Fruit and Nut Trees' started by Unregistered, Feb 3, 2005.

  1. I have what seems to be an older pear tree. It has not been pruned in at least a few years. Most of the pears end up rotting on the ground and there are several overgrown and broken branches. I am renting the house and the owners are not interested in paying for pruning. I have heard that there is an organization that will prune my tree in exchange for using much of its fruit for people in need of it. What organization offers this service? Is anyone interested in pruning in exchange for the fruit of the tree (most of it anyway)?

you may be thinking of the fruit tree project, a volunteer group which picks unharvested fruit and distributes it to the needy. but they don't do tree care. i'm unaware of any food bank in the area that also prunes fruit trees. it's more of a specialist/hobbyist thing.
