    Hi Durgan,

I planted a bed of garlic last year which I believed had died before producing bulbs. Looking out across my garden I can see the entire bed is now full of young garlic haha. I guess that the bulbs must have survived and now I have 2-4 plants coming from the same spot where I had planted a single clove the year before.

Now to my question. Is it best to somehow thin out the garlic so that they're not so crowded or should I leave them be?

The clump will not produce cloves of any useful size. Basically all you have is what is similiar to a clump of chives. These can be eaten during the summer, and are still pleasant. One single clove planted in the Fall produces a beautiful bulb ready for harvest about 1 July in my Zone 5.

Browse this thread if you are serious about garlic growing in the home garden.

These will be cut off before they straighten out in two or three days, and used in a stir fry. Apparently the garlic cloves get slightly larger when the scapes are removed.

These will be used in a stir fry. They are an expensive luxury item.
