Ive been collecting some maples this winter, and plan on growing some root stock and doing some grafting next year. The problem is i live in central CA and the summers get hot. Lots of people grow maples here. My poted maples do fine in full shade for the summer.
My question is am I crazy to try and start a small maple nursery here? How much will my growth rate be hurt compaired to nurserys north of me? How bad will small trees look in the summer?
    Thank you for any help.

    Well,

As a reference Sommer Nursery is in Templeton, CA which is roughly west of where you are and summer temps there can get into the 100s as it does here in Los Angeles.

    Hope this helps,

    Layne
