I wonder if someone can tell me something on the propagation of Stachyurus praecox by seed, especially how long it will take before the seeds germinate. I've looked at several seed germination databases on the Internet but I cannot find anything on Stachyurus species.
Any information will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A short update. I sowed the Stachyurus seeds at the end of August and after three weeks I saw the the first seedlings. On the the attached photo you can see (if you look very good) the tiny seedlings.

The Royal Horticultural Society writes about this shrub:

    " Stachyurus praecox
    Common name: Spiketail
    Family: Stachyuraceae

    Vital statistics
Height and spread: 1-4m (3-12ft) high by 3m (10ft) wide
    Form: Deciduous shrub
Soil: Moist, well-drained, humus-rich, fertile, neutral to acid soil.
    Aspect: Prefers partial shade.
Hardiness: Hardy throughout the British Isles."

It flowers in early spring (March-April) before the leaves appear. Young plants can suffer from severe frost in winter; older plants are more hardier. (Young plants are Z7, older plants Z6).

The attached photo shows the flowers on my plant. The photo is from last spring (2007).
