I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if there actually is a worm in partridge berries or is this an old wives tale? All the sites I've looked at state that this berry should be ready to pick late September. I picked some yesterday and people have told me it's too early & that the "worm" is still in them!

First of all, we need to figure out what you mean by partridge berry - I seem to recall that folks from Newfoundland mean something different by partridge berry than is used elsewhere. I don't think it is this one Mitchella repens, but rather this one: Vaccinium vitis-idaea

The latter is correct. I searched Vaccinium vitis-idaea and this is the partridge berry in NL. Are you aware of a worm in this berry prior to the frost that is suppose to ripen for consumption?
